Pruitt Igoe Ideas Competition 2012
The solution was simple: transform one of the world’s most disastrous attempts at public housing into an opportunity to learn how to develop and produce sustainably.
The envisioned center will serve as a hub for industrial and commercial innovation, bringing together the world’s top scientists and corporations to develop, study, and manufacture solutions. By fostering an environment where experts and ideas collaborate, aiming to bring significant economic renewal to the core of St. Louis.
The design used manufactured skin modules to form the mass and protect the interior while allowing daylight and natural ventilation. The form creates a large staircase connecting each floor to outdoor terraces encouraging movement and collaboration. The building orientation bring southern solar exposure into the core outdoor park embrace by the form. The units on each of the east and west facades are mirrored to maximize effectiveness of three-dimensional skin modules.
