Mt San Antonio College Science Center

As the project designer for the Mt. San Antonio College Science Center, I was responsible for the planning, design, and design development of the labs, classrooms, service and support spaces, museum, and practicum.

The planning wove new science lab elements into the existing context, connecting the center with the adjacent math classroom buildings. A slight angular gesture was used to align the science courtyard entry with the campus grid. To substantially reduce the building footprint, fume hoods were strategically positioned to allow venting to be housed in a central exterior mass. Additionally, the vertical and horizontal stacking followed strict laboratory criteria for light, vibration, and service to ensure an efficient, practical facility.

The stairs were moved to the exterior of the structure to minimize the impact on floor area and to create tower elements that mimic existing buildings and respect the campus character. Furthermore, brick was strategically placed to provide a premium aesthetic while remaining cost-effective.
